AI bubble is worse than the dot-com crash that erased trillions, economist warns — overvaluations could lead to catastrophic consequences | Tom’s Hardware

For those who rely heavily upon AI to do work for them, they may be setting themselves up for a huge surprise if many of the companies who provide AI tools go out of business or change to a high cost subscription model.

In recent years, many free or low cost AI tools have popped up to assist with tasks such as writing code, editing media, and taking & organizing notes. In the early 2000’s, there were a multitude of tools popping up to do similar tasks for those who previously had done them manually. When the Dot Com bust happened, many who were reliant on Tech tools to do their work, had to scramble to find viable alternatives. For those relying upon AI chatbots such as those provided by Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI, what happens if those tools are no longer easily available?
